During this crisis, I want to provide you with some tips on worrying through what may be a challenge for some mothers who formula feed, but do not have formula at the moment. Here are a few tips you can think about and do!!
To begin relactating ypu can start from the beginnig which would be todo loss of skin to skin. Skin to skin is an effortless biological normal thing to do with your baby.
Babies need lots of skin to skin time with BOTH parents immediately after birth and anytime afterwards.
Do you know why skin to skin is so important?
Some benefits are:
Releases hormones that relieves stress and stabilizes baby’s temperature, heart rate, breathing rate and helps with blood sugar levels.
Promotes bonding
Helps increase milk supply for mothers because it stimulates prolactin and oxytocin, which helps your body to release breast milk.
Boosts baby's immune systems
Lowers mothers risks of postnatal depression. Gives both parents a chance to rest and or take breaks.
Once you have skin to skin down pack, offer your baby or toddler your breasts. The rule of thumb is o feed every 2 hours to begin producing a healthy amount of milk for your baby or toddler. You can also offer the breasts as much as you like because babies breastfeed for many different reasons!
Some reasons may include what is called comfort nursing! When babies are not able to express them selves, they know that if they atach to mom hey can get help with regulation of stress as stated above, so DON"T worry you are doing it right and your milk is ENOUGH!
Learn the b est position for you and your child. he all time favorite for me is the effortless LAID BACK POSITION!
Just sit back, relax and allow your baby to feed on you or toddler.
Now if you are not comfortable breastfeeding directly from the breasts, you can always pump. Yes, There is a way for you to still be as amazing as you already are for your babies whether small or big! Start by KEEPING THE SETTING LOW when pumping- THIS STIMULATES A NURSING BABY AND TELLS YOUR BODY TO LET DOWN MILK FOR THE BABY
Once you see the milk In the container, turn the speed of your pump down and the amount of suction up. PUMP AT HIGHEST SUCTION WITHIN YOUR COMFORT ZONE.
Remember if you start to exclusively pump that you must change certain pumping parts !
Valves and membranes- every 60-90 days
The little white flaps on the valves need to be replaced regularly.
If membrane does lay flat, replace the part as needed .
DUCK VALVES- replace every 4 weeks for EP
BACK FLOW PROTECTOR DIAPHRAMS-m every 3 months (in closed systems)– If you see moisture in your pump part, it may cause mold o replace as needed
TUBING- (As needed ) if moisture gets into tubing, REPLACE tubing- there’s no way to sterilize this- if it slips on and off then replace
BREASTS SHIELD- replace breast shields every 6 months
Know that the normal output for pumping For both breast combined a normal output is .5-2 oz.
To get ahead start do what is called POWER PUMPING!!
Power pumping is when you pump for 20 minutes.
Rest for 10 minutes.
Pump for 20 minutes
Rest for 10 mins
It is recommended that you do this technique up to 3 times a day to prevent damage to your breasts tissue!
